Teletype ASR33, rescued from scrap in september 2003. Was hooked to a Beckman LS-330 Liquid Scintillation System.

Teletype model 3320 3WA (rear)

Code UP201/541/Tv (rear, when cover removed)

Code UK819 DSK, serial number 318164 (front, when cover removed).

Cover removed. Notice the black and white wire from the front switch: they were used for activating the Teletype directly from the Beckman LS-330 Liquid Scintillation System.

There are 2 wires (red and green) instead of 4 on connector 2, because the Teletype was used only to record or print the output of the scintillation detector.

The puncher and the reader work perfectly.

The keyboard is functionning.

The characters in the three lower rows of the print head are rather worn out (noticeable on a print).

Lubrication as described in the three users book took more than 6 hours. A clip had to be removed in order to have the automatic carriage-return line feed activated.

Bulletin 310B Vol 1 and Vol 2 and Bulletin 1184B are vital for undertaking the renovation of a ASR33. A clear understanding the mecanical principles of the ASR33 had to be acquired before to be able to fix some mistakes done at first. Never actionate the function levers at random just to see what happens! You might end up having to work long hours to put everything back in order (specially the function levers with respect to the pawls).

The web page by David Gesswein as well as his collection of pdf documents about the ASR33 are particularly usefull.
